IN MEMORIAM
Mary Jane Harrison, daughter of Nathan and Sarah Gabbard-Harrison was born in Jackson Co, KY Jan 28, 1854 and departed this life Oct 8, 1829, being at the time of her demise, aged 75 years, 7 months and 11 days.
When she was four years old her parents decided to try their fortunes in a land further west, so with their family of five small children they cam by boat from Louisville, KY to Frederick IL, and located about three miles west of Rushville in Buenavista township. There in the atmosphere of a pious home she grew to womanhood.
Coming from thrifty peioneer stock, she early in years assumed the responsibility of making her own living. Her greatest pleasure lay in making the road easier for others and many a burden has been lightened by Mary's assistance. Her entire life has been one of sacrifice, and it can be truly said of her, "She hath done what she could."
At an early age she united with the Baptist church and on coming to Rushville she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church and when health and circumstances permited she was always found in her place of worship.
She was the fourth child in a family of twelve. Nancy, wife of Z. B. Kennedy; Elizabeth, wife of Richard Scott; Elisha, John, Amanda, wife of John Robinson; Lousia, wife of Ed Icenogle; Jacob, Ulysses, Sarah, Charity, wife of S. A. Lawler, and William. Only four survive, Elizabeth, Charity and John of Rushville, and Elisha of Chester, Arkansas.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct 1-th at 2:30 pm at the Presbyterian CHurch, Conducted by Rev. Alexander McFerran. Interment in Rushville Cemetery.
