Individual Details
Rev. Barzilla Graves
(12 Dec 1759 - 14 Jul 1827)
Barzilla married Ursula Wright on 9 Apr 1783 in Caswell Co NC. She was born 28 Apr 1775, died 22 Nov 1843.
Article in the Lives and Times newsletters of the Caswell County Historical Association, Sept 2014, p.3 has the births death, marriages of Barzilla Graves' children. Ursula is said to be the daughter of William Wright, granddaughter of John Wright. Not only was Barzilla Graves a distinguished clergyman, he served in the North Carolina Senate 1814-1815 and in the House of Commons from 1818 to 182. He was a taxpayer in Gloucester District as early as 1790.
The article claims he is a direct descendant of the Capt Thomas Graves who was one of the charter members and original shareholders of the Virginia Company of London, 1607, that was responsible for the establishment of Jamestown. Capt Thomas Graves arrived in Jamestown, Oct 1608, on the Mary and Margaret with Cap Newport's second supply mission. He was a member of the first legislative assembly, the Virginia House of Burgesses. He is claimed as the progenitor of all the Graves families found in Caswell - I have seen elsewhere that this is not proved.
