In Box 32, Folder 2231, the miscellaneous Research Notes, of John A. Comstock's manuscript collection, are writings from a granddaughter of Abel Comstock. She said he had died when her father was very young, only 4 years old. She gave her grandmother's name as Rebecca Flippeny. Rebecca had four sisters, Eunice Martin, Abigale Strong, Huldah Gilbert and Phebe Chapman. Eunice's husband was Enoch Martin. The writer's grandmother Rebecca had been ten when Independence was declared. She was born 22 May 1766. The family had moved to Granville, Washington Co, NY [the Comstock book says in 1786]. They had four children: Clara [Clarissa], David, Filetus [renamed Abel after his father died] and Phebe. Her grandfather had died in 1796. The two oldest children were bound out - David to his uncle Adam Strong to learn the shoemaker's trade. Rebecca then married Mr. McClintock [John] who had family and his family remained with them. Rebecca kept only her youngest Comstock child - Phebe. Clara married John McClintock, son of her stepfather; they had three children that lived to be married. Her son Martin had four children; he started west in 1850, but died of cholera on the way. Her daughter Eliza married a Mr. Adams. David married Sallie McClintock, no children [I wonder if Sallie was also a child of the stepfather?]
Abel Comstock [son of Abel & Rebecca] as born in Granville, NY 1 Mar 1792. He married Isabell Cummings on 18 Sep 1815. [parent of writer of this letter]
Phebe married Lyman Taylor, she died leaving two little girls, the babe only surviving a month or so after her mother.
Grandfather died 1824, White Hall, NY [must have been the step-grandfather] and grandmother lived with Uncle John and Aunt Clara. They moved to Portage Co, Ohio.

In the Comstock book, p.179, is Family 720, the family of Abel Comstock who married Isabella Cummings. The note under their daughter Isabella reads, "She compiled a record from which much valuable data was secured for this branch of the family." Isabella was born 1 Jul 1831; she died in White Salmon, Washington 1 Jan 1916; her husband was Craig Bennett.
