Next door to William in 1910 is Merryman Kilgore, age 77 married 53 years to Mary J. who is 69. Marked as no children but he must surely be kin since the young child of William H. is named for him. Merryman & Mary also have two widowed sisters living with them: Margaret Stevenson, age 66 and Dorcas Titswood, age 59.

The 1860 census shows Merryman and Mary with what appears to be his siblings. It seems likely that they helped raise them and did not have children of their own. I suspect Merryman is an uncle to William H. Kilgore. Van Buren Township: Merryman Kilgore age 23, b. VA. Mary age 18, b. AR. John 13, Margaret 12, Dorcus 7, and Martha 18. All the younger ones born in Tennessee. This Margaret must have married a Stevenson, and Dorcas married a Titswood. Is John the father of William H? It seems likely.
Posted on the memorial page of the nephew, Merryman Payne Kilgore, was a note that he was the great nephew of the older Merryman & Maggie Stevenson - so these are the correct relationships.
