It seems that all of the early Virginia families are confused. Some show the parents of this Valentine Martin, b. 1 Dec 1767 in Goochland, as the son of Job Martin and Mary Clarkson. Others back up a generation and show him as the son of a Valentine Martin & Jane Bridgewater which would seem to make him a brother of Job. The Douglas Register has the birth and baptism of Valentine Clarkson Martin and his parents were Job Martin and Mary Clarkson - this would seem to remove the doubt.
Job Martin and Mary Clarkson were married 24 Sep 1763 in Goochland, also recorded in The Douglas Register. Their son Valentine-Clarkson born 1 Dec 1767 and Baptized 2 Mar 1768.

They also appear online in databases but most of the data appears to be highly unreliable. It appears the first child was born two years prior to the marriage - is one of the dates wrong, or did Valentine have a brief earlier marriage?
