Earl Higginbotham had his birth as 29 Oct 1852. Each census I have found is different. The 1860 census gave his age as 9 - I doubt he was born before 1850. His death certificate gives his date of birth as 28 Oct 1846 - but it's certain a member of the family didn't give the information.

1870 Freestone Co TX Census. Dwelling 107. Gave age as 20 (born 1850) - this actually seems more reasonable than a birth year of 1852.

1880 Henderson County TX p.138, ED 32 (read by Shirley Baker). W. L. Higginbotham, age 35 (born 1845) living with Frances, Thomas, Violetta and Willis. A neighbor may have given the census info as he's listed as older than Frances and no relationship is stated for them. His wife is living with her brother Cicero Prather - p.160, ED 34, along with their first 4 children. Although they are obviously estranged, they will have one more child before divorcing.

Earl Higginbotham apparently felt this was his death certificate. The age of William has always been a little confusing.
Texas Death Certificate #10216. Will Higginbotham, of Rt. 2, Chilton, Falls Co, TX died on 11 Mar 1920 of senility and cardiac failure. He was widowed. Born 28 Oct 1846 in Louisiana. The informant, W. T. Hardy, did not know his parents. He was buried in Chilton on March 12th.
