(From Culpeper Co. Va. Deed Book 5 pp. 114-17 30 May 1767)
Philip Jacob IRION of Culpeper Co. to James CHRISTIE, Herman MEYER and Christian MEYER of the City of London, merchants.
James CHRISTIE, Herman MEYER and Christian MEYER did by a certain instrument of writing, August 1764, enter into an agreement with Philip Jacob IRION and John Jacob SCHLOSSER that they would purchase 7000 acres of land in Virginia, Maryland or Pennsylvania in the name and for the use of James CHRISTIE, Herman MEYER, Christian MEYER, Philip Jacob IRION and John Jacob SCHLOSSER, one third part thereof to be the property of James CHRISTIE, one third part the property of Hermon MEYER and Christian MEYER and the remaining third part to be the property of Philip Jacob IRION and John Jacob SCHLOSSER, for which purpose was to be advanced by Jacob CHRISTIE, Hermon MEYER and Christian MEYER as also a futher sum (as might be found necessary) to purchase utensils
for carrying on the business or manufactory of pearl pot ash, the management of which manufactory was to be left to Philip Jacob IRION and John Jacob SCHLOSSER under certain conditions and limitations, in consequence of which agreement Philip Jacob IRION and John Jacob SCHLOSSER in behalf of the company have purchased tracts of land in the County of Culpeper to the amount of 6545 acres. also one Negro man named Jack, one copper still and worm, one set of blacksmith's tools, six horses. nineteen neat cattle with sundry kettles and other utensils for carrying the contract into execution, for which James CHRISTIE, Herman MEYER and Christian MEYER have paid about 1600 pound sterling, which sum was to be reimbursed out of the first product of the lands. But John Jacob SCHLOSSER having withdrawn himself from the business and other accidents intervening, no profits have as yet arisen from the lands. Philip Jacob IRION being willing to give all the security in his power for the payment of his perportinable part of the disbursements, therefore:
Philip Jacob IRION for his proportinable of the 1600 pound sterling upon a
just settlement doth sell unto James CHRISTIE, Hermon MEYER and Christian MEYER all his interest to 6545 acres, Negro man, still and worm, blacksmith tools, six horses, nineteen neat cattle, iron kettles, other utensils.
If Philip Jacob IRION shall pay unto James CHRISTIE, Hermon MEYER and
Christian MRYER his perpotimable before the last day of February next then
everything herein contained shall be void. In case the parties should
mutually agree hereafter to carry on the manufactory of pearl pot ash,
nothing herein shall be construed to alter or change the original contract.
