Parthenia Thurman

(1813 - 10 Feb 1863)

Married Cullen Barron 23 Mar 1831 Morgan County AL. Hardeman Co TN in 1840, 1850; Friar's Point, Coahoma County MS 1860.

Died.
Near Columbus, Mississippi, on the 10th of February, 1863, Mrs. Parthenia Barron, wife of Cullen Barron, Esq. of Yazoo Pass, Coahoma County, Miss.
Mrs. Barron was a native of Elbert County, Georgia and for several year previous to her removal to Mississippi was a resident of Hardeman County, Tennessee.
In the death of this estimable lady, society and her family have sustained a loss which cannot be easily repaired. It is common for the living to forget the faults of those who have passed away, and to treasure up only the memory of their virtues, but in this case there is nothing to give to oblivion, while there is everything tender, beautiful and good to remember. As a wife, she was a ministering angel to him who, for years, walked by her side, and whose home is desolate now that she is gone. As a mistress, she was provident and faithful, studying always to give unto her servants that which was just and equal, remembering that she, too, had a "Master in Heaven" As a friend, she was prudent, affectionate and trustful. Since the beginning of our struggle for independence she had toiled incessantly for the comfort of our soldiers; giving lavishly of her means and time to alleviate their sufferings in the camp and in the hospitals. She was one of whom the "world was not worthy" and so God summoned her to walk with those who serve Him day and night in his temple. Phil. P. Neely
