Robert Harris
(1630 - 1700)
Emigrated to Hanover Co VA between 1650-1660; believed to be in one of 4 shiploads of emigrants brought to the New World by a Welsh Baptist preacher. Robert was a colonel in the militia of Hanover Co.
He apparently first appeared in a 26 Oct 1657 York Co VA court order when Col. William Barber, Christopher Harris, Robert Harris & Richard Harris were appointed to divide the estate of the late Nicholas Commins, whose widow Ellinor had married Francis Wheeler. Nichols Commins, Jr. owned a tract of land adjacent Robert Harris's patent in New Kent County - which was about 10 miles from the home of Col. William Claiborne.
