15 May 1780 Montomgery Co KY William Jordan Morton entered 961 2/3 acres of land joining George Paynes 333 2/3 [or 1333 2/3] acres on the waters of Hinksons Run, branch of the South Fork of Licking River beginning at the north corner of Paynes.
George Payne was probably his brother-in-law

In 1811, the son William Jordan moved to Logan Co. KY, followed by Joseph, John, & Fannie; the remainder of the family coming by 1815. Their home at the head of the Gasper River was know as "Snowden". He is said to have been a Revolutionary soldier, comrade in arms of George Blakey, but I have no proof.
Baptized 16 Feb 1819; First Baptist Church, Russellville. Licensed as a preacher Jul 1820.

[Note: This is surely William Norton, not Morton. In the Logan Co marriages is the marriage of Polly Hise to William Norton, 10 Apr 1813. There is also a book listed in the LDS Family History library, titled The Nortons of Russellville, KY, by David Norton, with the description, "William Norton was born 2 September 1781 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Hise, daughter of Frederick Hise and Nancy, 11 April 1813 in Russelville, Kentucky. They had nine children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kentucky and Missouri."]


Logan Co DB Q, p.205 3 Feb 1830 Decree of chancery court ordered sale of tract of land where Peter Morton was living that had been sold to William J. Morton Sr. by William Haden on 12 Jul 1819 [DB G, p.259]. Peter was highest bidder. Deed from the heirs of William J. Morton Sr., names the 12 children as shown here as well as the children of Sarah and Martha who had died. Jefferson Haden and his wife Betsy, formerly Betsy Morton, were included.
