Horace S. Turner

(Abt 1795 - 26 Sep 1844)

Of Sheldon, Wyoming Co NY. "Historical Wyoming", Jan 1959, gives his name as Judge Horace S. Turner. Said to have abandoned his study of medicine to help his mother after the death of his father.
Served in the War of 1812 in the corps of mounted riflemen under Col. Chapin. Said to have been imprisoned. Was at the sortie of Ft. Erie, the battle of Chippewa, Black Rock, and attempted to defend Buffalo when it was burned in Dec 1813.
[If Horace was old enough to serve in the War of 1812, he must have been very old indeed to have died in 1896 as stated in the above article - obviously an error)
