Graveside services for Charlie Ray Montgomery, 82, of Roswell, were held at 11 am, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at South Park Cemetery with Pastor Danny Sons officiating. Charlie passed away Monday, September 21, 2009. Charlie was born May 4, 1927 to James and Mattie Davis Montgomery in Quitaque, Tx. He proudly served his Country as a Marine during World War II, followed by thirty six years of service in law enforcement including being a sheriffs deputy for Lubbock County. Charlie was a devoted father, patriot and friend. He is survived by his daughter; Judy Smith, two grandchildren; Dale Smith and Sandra Turner, his companion; Jean Camp; his brother, Billy Montgomery and his wife, Dixie of Claunch, NM; and many friends. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Tracy, Leonard and Alton, one infant son, Nolan Dale and one infant daughter, Nora Gail.
