Jane/Jone [Chamberlin]

(Abt 1595 - Aft 28 Jan 1678/79)

Data from "The Two Henry Chamberlins of Hingham, Massachusetts: 1638 -1649," by David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. 139, April 1985, pp.126-138.
Jane was co-executor of her husband's will, and sold his remaining estate on 3 Mar 1674/5, which at that time consisted of 10 parcels of land, all located in Hingham, with house, carpenter houses, land and meadow, to Thomas Sawyer (Sayer) of Hingham (Suffolk Deeds, Boston 1880-1906, 13:479-82). This instrument conclusively establishes that Jane was the wife of Henry Chamberlin, the blacksmith, and mother of their two eldest sons. Hence, Jane was Henry's wife long before they left England.

Faulty research has shown her name as Jane Freeman - however that lady was the wife of a very different Henry Chamberlin.
