R.R. Guard Killed in Nassau....
New Hyde Park Man Found Dying Near Crossing; Broken Lantern Nearby.
New Hyde Park, Mar 20. Nassau County police and Coroner ARthur W. Jones are investigating the mysterious death of Leonard Mischler, 57 years old, of Fifth Street, New Hyde Park, employed by the Long Island Railraod as watchman at the crossing here.....
It was a first the belief of the police that Mischler may have been struck by a train, but the condition of his clothing and the injuries he received did not appear to bear out this theory...
Mischler was alive but unconscious when Walton Chamberlin, of St Albans saw him lying about ten feet from the watchman's shanty at the crossing. Chamberlin was driving across the tracks about 9 o'clock at night when he saw Mischler. He summoned persons in the neighborhood and Dr. Horton was call from the Nassau Hospital. The physician tried restoratives but before he was able to get the man into the ambulance he died.
