BLUE MOUND - Thomas Pope Becket of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Blue Mound, died Monday (Jan. 17, 1983) in his home.
Following cremation private memorial graveside services will be held at a later date, Hall Cemetery, Blue Mound....
Mr. Beckett was born in Blue Mound, son of J. Ralph and L. June Beckett. He was a retired employee of Field & Shorb in Decator and a charter member of Decatur Christ Lutheran Church. He was a colonel in the U. S. Army Air Force and wing commander of his unted in the US Air Force in World War II. He flew 27 B-17 missions over Nazi Germany and was one of the most decorated members of the 8th Air Force, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross three times plus three clusters on his air medal. A flight in which he led a formation of flying fortresses deep into Naxi Germany was reported in some detail in the August 1943 Chicago Tribune because of its devastating effect on the Nazi was effort. He married Neta King. She preceded him in death. He married Brenda Eke in 1945.
Surviving are his wife: daughters, Lisa Macko of Tampa, Fla.; Neta Jo Hendrickson of Fort Worth, Texas:brothers, John B. of Gillespie; James R. of Blue Mound; two grandchildren.
One sister preceded him in death.
