Individual Details
Isaiah Haden
(Ca 1748 - )
Isaiah appears in the Hanover Co processing records for the first time in 1771 - in all likelihood he had reached the age of 21 since the previous processioning in 1767. In 1755, orphans of John Haden were noted in the processioning but not named. A Thomas Haden appeared in 1764 for the first time and was still there in 1767, but not with Isaiah in 1771. However, in 1772, are several references to Thomas Haden's child.
Gwathmey's book of Virginians in the Revolution, lists Isaiah Haden, Capt. in the Hanover Militia. Also a DAR patriot, John Anderson, described [probably in a pension application] that he had enlisted 1 Sep 1781 and served for 3 months in Capt. Isaiah Haden's Company, Col. John Taylor's VA Regt.
Both Thomas and Isaiah were in the Parish Tax List for St. Paul's Parish in 1782. That is the last year for Thomas, but Isaiah is found through 1790.
Isaiah Haden signed a petition to protest the division of Hanover County, 30 Nov 1784.
On 10 May 1786, Isaiah placed an ad in The Virginia Gazette to sell 561 acres in Hanover Co on the South Anna River. Two deeds of sale have been found. Isaiah and his wife Ann, sold 284 acres to William Lumpkin on 5 Dec 1786 and then on 14 Feb 1788, they old 247 acres to Richard Littlepage. Both Lumpkin & Littlepage appeared on the same petition in 1784.

3 Jul 1788. Proved by Pollard, Spelter, & Coles.
The 1789 and 1790 tax records for Hanover co show that Isaiah still was taxed on 247 acres in the county. Taxes were levied on the previous year so 1790, appears to possibly an error.
In 1794, Isaiah Haden shows up on a tax list in Botetourt Co, VA. Anthony, John, and Bartholomew Haden were all appointed Deputy Sheriffs in Botetourt in 1798. A marriage record for Batholomew Haden to Catherine Gholson, 14 Jun 1801, apparently names Anthony as Bartholomew's brother, providing security. [I wonder if this is a presumption - relationship of security is not usually provided.]I Anthony Gholson was Catherine's father.
In 1805, a John Haden was appointed a Deputy Sheriff in Wayne Co, KY; a few years later Bartholomew Haden & Anthony Gholson moved to Wayne Co.
The Journal of the House of Representatives from 1836-1845, reveals the House repeatedly heard a plea for seven years' half-pay for the revolutionary services of Isaiah Haden, payable to his heirs. The bill was always referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Claims. No decision provided and the heirs are not listed. I have found to application for bounty land, etc. in the Revolutionary Pension files.
The children as shown here are found either in Botetourt Co, VA or in Wayne Co KY and placed as members of Isaiah's family. I believe there is no additional proof.
