John was a son of William Kendrick and Sarah Jones, and brother to Mary Kendrick who married William Fox, Amy's brother.

(D.B. 5, p 545.) John and Amy Fox Kendrick appear in numerous deeds in Mecklenburg Virginia . John was appointed First Lt. in Capt. James Lewis' Company, Oct. 13, 1777 (Mecklenburg O.B. 4, page 374). Took an oath as a militia officer May 11, 1778 (page 403). Later became a Captain and saw active service. The land-tax records of Mecklenburg refer to him as Capt Kendrick in 1782, 1787, and 1789. Lieutenant Willoughby came before a Justice of the Peace of said County, and made oath that the within Pay-abstract contains a Just and true account of a detachment of Militia under his command, ordered into service purs uant to instructions of the Governor of Virginia, dated 15th day of August, '92.

" 1b. John Kendrick, born about 1735 in Virginia, married Amy Fox, daughter of Richard and Hannah Williamson Fox (see Chapter IV). She was a sister of William Fox who married Mary Kenddrick. John died in Mecklenburg County, Virginia where his will was probated December 16, 1811. John and Amy Fox Kendrick were the parents of nine childen....
1b1. Mollie Kendrick, born about 1759, married Mr. Cunningham. They were the parents of eight children.
1b2. William Kendrick, born about 1760. There was a William Kendrick who was sixteen years old in 1785 in Mecklenburg Cove, Virginia.

1b4. Keziah Kendrick, born about 1763, married January 11, 1791 to John Stevens in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. They were the parents of nine children.
1b5. John Kendrick, born about 1764, married in 1785 to Martha Dinkins in Warren County, North Carolina. They were the parents of nine children.
1b6. Elizabeth Kendrick, born about 1768. Maried October 10, 1787 to John Price.
1b7. James Kendrick, born about 1772, married December 12, 1797, to Elizabeth Wright in Mecklenburgy County, Virginia. He died Mecklenbury County and his will was probated June 17, 1811. There were three children named in his will.
1b8. Obedience Kendrick, born about 1773. Marrid: 1 - John Osborne. 2 - Joshua Dinkins.
1b9. Lucy Kendrick, born about 1775, married January 5, 1796 to James Dinkins. She died in 1849 in Canton, Mississippi. There were the parents of three, and possibly more, children."
