Brother Dies
The Clay Center Times of last week has the following account of the death of Ernest Musselman, a brother of Will Musselman of Miltonvale. Gus Musselman was well known to many of the older residents of this community.
Many people in Clay Center will remember Ernest E. Musselman of this city, and will be sorry to learn of his tragiv death at Rogers, Ark., Friday, December 9th. Ernest learned the baking trade in Clay Center but left here in 1889, going to Rogers, Ark., where he worked for different firms and in 1895 established the Famous Bakery which has been consideed almost a trade mark in Rogers, only one or two business men of that city having been there longer.
According to a report of the accident published in the Rogers, (Ark.) Democrat, Mr. Musselman was truck by a Fayette-Rogers bus as he was crossing the street about a half block south of his home and he lived only a few minutes, his skull being fracured, both legs broken and he sustatined other injuries. He never regained consciousness. He was evidently delivering some rolls to his neighbor on the way home. Mr. Musselman was very hard of hearing and the bus driver stated at the coroner's inquest that when he saw him crossing the street he pulled to the right toward the curb and that Mr. Musselman jumped back when he saw or heard the car ans struck by the bumpers and knocked to the pavement. The verdict was that death was occasioned by the bus but no attempt was made to fix the blame for the unfortunate accident.
The Rogers paper stated that Mr. Musselman was one of the oldest and best known business men of the city, and no citizen in the history of Rogers had ever born a better reputation for honesty, sobriety, love of home and family, and all else that goes to make a real man. His death is especially sad because only last March his wife passed away and their three childrne, Mrs. Howell Hodges, Ralph and Geraldine are now doubly stricken in the loss of both their parents. Funeral services were held at the Musselman home in Rogers, which they had occupied for nearly thirty-three years, on Sunday, Deceber 11. Ernest was born January 1, 1864 in Jo Davis County, Illinois, and came to Clay County in 1879. He was 63 years, 11 months and nine days old at his passing.
Besides his son and daughters, Mr. Musselman leaves his mother, Mrs. Ida Musselman of Maple, Nebr., three brothers, Gus of Clay Ceneter, Will of Miltonvale, and Chris of Lincoln Center and two sisters, Mrs. John Gerdes of Marple, Nebr. and Mrs. Clara Hulse of Denver, Colo.
