Patrick Shannon

(23 Dec 1873 - )

It was reported that Patrick, while living in Exerter, NH with sisters C a therine and Ann, became ill with stomach problems and wanted to return t o I reland to die. Being too sick to sick to make the trip alone his bro th er Barney returned to Ireland with him. Much to the suprise of of all , P atrick recovers and some years later returned for a second time to A me rica. His sister Catherine wrote to Minnie and Barney that Patrick ag a in was becoming sick and must return to Ireland. It is reported that B a rney said to Patrick that "If I take you back again you go back and di e t his time you S.O.B." My mother, Minnie Shannon Moon, told me that i t w orked the second time because a few years later they heard that Uncl e P at had died in Ireland. Joe Moon. As an aside to the above- "Celti c S pru or Sprue Disease, the "Irish Disease" is an intestinal disorder t h at doesn't allow the body to digest gluten found in most grains, but n o t in rice and potatoes, which might explain why Patrick recovered afte r r eturning to Ireland and his normal diet of potatoes. I don't know if a n y of you people may have this disorder, but if you do, here is some in d ication that the family might have this in the line. Joe Moon.
