Cragg, 40, 723 Bluemont, waskilled instantly at 6 p.m. F r iday on U.S. Highway 40, 1.2 miles west of Wamego when he was returnin g t o Manhattan from Topeka and, according to report ofHighway Patrolman R o y Phillips, attempted to pass another car on the curve. Mr. and Mrs. C l ark A. Thorp, of Leavenworth, witnessed the accident. It wasthei r c ar he was attempting to pass when he seemed to lose control of the a ut omobile, and it went onto the left shoulder of the road to scrape the g u ard rails, return to the pavement and across the road into the ditch o n t he rightside. The car turned over and struck a tree broadside. It ap pe ared, Patrolman Phillips said in his report, that Cragg was killed in s tantly. He received acrushed chest and skull fractures and severe lace r ations of the face. Cragg was taken to Wamego in a Stewart ambulance a n d the scene of the accident was visited at once by Frank Ewing, sherif f o f Pottawatomie county. Patrolman Phillips was called at 6:55 p.m. an d a rrived at 7:20 p.m. Cragg had lived inthis vicinity for 37 years. He w a s a private painting contractor. He is survived by his wife, of t h e home; by a son, John in the armed forces in England; by Mrs. Helen J o hnson, 408 Colorado, a daughter; a son, George E. Cragg 1610 Houston; b y G retta and Wynn of the home, and by a brother Charles B. Cragg814 Fre mo nt, and a sister, Mrs Florence McInteer, route 3 Manhattan. Funeral s e rvices wil be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Burliew-Cowan funeral chap e lwith the Rev. A. L. Wright in charge. Interment is to be at the Pleas a nt Valley cemetery, Zeandale.
