Sanders, 69, one of Chester's highly esteemed citizens, died Monday morning at his home on Lancaster street. Mr. Sanders had been in declining health for about a year. At times he improved and was in and about the house, but Sunday afternoon he suffered a sinking spell from which he never rallied. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home by the Rev. M. L. Banister, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. A. E. Holler, pastor of Bethel Methodist Episcopal church and burial was made at Union Associate Reformed Presbyterian graveyard at Richburg, beside his son and namesake, John D. Sanders, Jr., who was laid to rest there just a week ago Sunday. He was buried with Masonic ceremonies. Mr. Sanders was a native of the Turkey Creek section and was a prominent planter for a number of years, and at other times was in charge of construction gangs, being regarded as one of the best road builders in Chester county. Prior to his last illness, he was constable for Magistrate 2, Vance Davidson. He was a devoted member of the Baptist church and leaves a large circle of friends. In addition to his widow, who was Miss Annie Kirkpatrick, Mr. sanders is survived by the following children: Joe H. Sanders and Miss Sallie sanders of Chester; Robert Sanders of Great Falls; Mrs. C. M> Wallace of Gastonia, N. C., and George and William Sanders of Birmingham, Ala.
