He was born on April 30, 1926, in North Platte, Neb., to Charles and Elizabeth McCance, the seventh of 11 children. He served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan following the end of World War II. In 1948 he married Lila Hemphill. They moved to Oregon in the mid-1950s and settled in the Oregon City/Molalla Area, where they raised their four children. He worked as a body and fender technician for various auto-body repair companies and auto dealerships before retiring in 1984. Mr. McCance is survived by: wife, Lila; children, Noreen, Lon, David and Scott; brother, Donald McCance; sister, Eva Richards; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Hillside Chapel in Oregon City, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery.
