Police identified the victim as Guy R. "Roy" Wehland, 57, of Holdrege. Investigators said Wehland was northbound on old Highway 183, when he lost control and slammed into a piling supporting a railroad overpass. Wehland, who was alone at the time of the mishap, was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. The death upped the state's 1975 traffic toll to 138, compared with 151 on this date last year.
