Monessen Daily Independent, Monessen, Pennsylvania, Monday, March 19, 1934, Front Page, Cols. 7 & 8: Donora Mill Official Called By Death. Carl S. Forkum, aged 52, of Gilmore Terrace, Donora, died at 3:05 this morning in the West Penn hospital, Pittsburgh, where he had been confined for the past month. Mr. Forkum was superintendent of the blast furnace of the Donora plant of the American Steel & Wire company. He was also president of the Donora School Board. Besides his wife, Mrs. Judith Forkum, a daughter Margaret Adele and a son, Carl S. Forkum, Jr., survive. Mr. Forkum graduated from New Castle high school and attended W. & J. college and Penn State college. At State he earned letters in football, basketball and track. Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening at 8:30 from the late home with burial following day at Franklin.

Oil City Derrick, Oil City, Pennsylvania, Friday, March 23, 1934, Page 15, Col. 2: The body of Carl Forkum a former resident of Franklin arrived in Franklin from Donora Thursday morning at 11 o'clock and was conveyed to the Boyd N. Park funeral home where a large number of friends viewed the body and paid their respects. Later in the day the body was interred in the Franklin cemetery.
