William Augustus Kirkpatrick

William was born 9 November 1857 and died 8 December 1922. In 1880 he married Martha Jane Smith who was born in 1860 and died in July of 1945. She was the daughter of William Cartwright Smith and Rebecca Jane Walker. John and Jane G. (Drennan) Smith of Curran, Illinois were the parents of William C. Smith and grandparents of Martha J. Smith. The pair lived at Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois. William and Martha were second cousins, and she was baptized by Peter Cartwright.
There were two (2) children born of the marriage.

Power; under the auspices of the Old Settlers' Society, a History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois; "Centennial Record", Edward A. Wilson & Co., Springfield, Ill., 1876, pg. 670.
On the 1900 U. S. Census of Carthage, Hancock, Co., Illinois, William A. Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Martha J. and children Eddy and Jessie. He is a building contractor.
On the 1910 U. S. Census of Carthage, Hancock Co., Illinois William A. Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Martha J. They have been married 30 years. Martha is the mother of 2, both of whom are currently living. William is a contractor. The family immediately after William is his son-in-law Russell Smith and family.
