On the U. S. Census of Trenton, Henry Co., Iowa Rachel appears as Mrs. Vorheis and her daughter Ida as step daughter to D. J. Voreis. D. J. is probably Daniel J.

Rachel E., daughter of William and Mary Hannah Taylor was born near Gendale, Jefferson County, Iowa, Oct. fourth, 1841. She grew to womanhood on a farm, jointed the M. E. church in her youth, of which she was a constant member till her death. She was married to Wm. M. Kirkpatrick, April 16, 1861, to which union was born two daughters. One, Mrs. Ida K. Meredith of Palo Alto, Cal., survives her. Her husband enlisted in the Civil war in 1862, and died in March1863. She was married to D. J. Vorhies October 5th, 1876. To this union was born two sons, one of whom survives, Dr. Charles T. Vorhies of the University of Arizona. Her passing came suddenly and peacefully. She was seemingly in her usual health till she received the news of the death of her only living brother, Henry Taylor of Red Oak, Iowa on the fifth of September and the death of her only living sister, Mrs. J. A. McPherron of Augusta, Kansas, on September seventh. From that time on till her death she grew gradually weaker and weaker till the end came. She was an ardent worker in the M. E. church of Mt. Pleasant for years, but removed to Palo Alto, Cal. after the death of her husband. The body will be brought to Lockridge for burial some time during the first of November, just the exact date has not yet been decided.
