Mount Pleasant Daily News, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Tuesday, January 12, 1915, Page 3, Col. 1 & 2: Daniel J. Vorhies was born in Noble county, Ohio, June 6, 1834. When he was five years of age his father moved to Henry county, Iowa. Here he grew to the sturdy manhood characteristic of the early pioneer. In 1857 he was united in marriage to Miss Malinda Austin. To this union were born nine children. His wife died in 1870. When six years had passed he was again married to Mrs. R. E. Kirkpatrick, to this union being born two sons. the surviving children left to mourn the loss are George of Richland, Mo., Edgar now residing near Lockridge, on the early homestead; Charles T. of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Ida Meredith, a stepdaughter, of Palo Alto, Cal., and his faithful wife Mrs. R. E. Vorhies. Daniel J. Vorhies lived the life of an upright man, striving with the unbroken soil and forest timber success rewarded his efforts. His heart responded to love and sympathy to his neighbor's needs and he leaves many warm friends to mourn the loss of a good man. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Mt. Pleasant, Ia. In his last illness his faith never wavered and his prayer was that God would relieve him from his pain. This prayer was granted at two A.M. January 2, 1915. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
