Kirkpatrick Family sere reunited for the first time in 21 years at a celebration in the parents' home, 2440 Raymond Avenue, Del Paso Heights. All their children were present. Kirkpatrick is the son of E. A. Kirkpatrick, who prospected the Mother Lode country and in 1850 was a storekeeper in Sacramento. He later became a member of the Oregon Legislature.
J. F. Kirkpatrick sailed on a ship at the age of 20 and after six months at sea landed at Capetown, South Africa. Thee he entered the missionary service. He met his future wife in King Williamstown, where they were married. Their eldest child was born in Africa.
