Lucia Rush Packard

Mrs. Lucia Rush McDonald, 92, died at a St. Joseph hospital this morning after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lee L. McDonald, who died in February, 1947. He was a doctor of dental surgery and Mrs. McDonald was his dental assistant in his office in the Kirkpatrick building for many years. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, Mrs. McDonald's parents were Dr. Wilbur Fiske Packard, who died in January 1917, and Mrs. Sophia Eugenia Aycock Packard, who died in 1937. Doctor Packard was the pastor of Francis Street United Methodist Church from 1897 to 1901, the family having moved to St. Joseph when he accepted the pastorate. Mrs. McDonald also was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Packard, who died in February, 1950, and two sons, Daniel McDonald, who died in 1966, and Lieut. Roland A. McDonald, an army air corps pilot who died in a plane crash in Waterboro, S.C., in October, 1942. Mrs. McDonald had lived at the Methodist Medical Center's Pavilion since last December. Prior to that she had made her home at the Hotel Robidoux for many years. She was a member of Francis Street United [Methodist] Church. In 1900 she served as vice-president of her class at Central High School. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Wilbur P. McDonald, St. Joseph, and Lee L. McDonald Jr., Pasadena, Cal.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held tomorrow at 1 at Mount Mora cemetery with burial there. Miss Bess Combs will read the service. Services are under the direction of the Meirhoffer-Fleeman funeral home.
