Byron Kirkpatrick

Byron Kirkpatrick was born 14 July 1878 at Fredonia, Kansas. He died at Tulsa, Oklahoma, 18 August 1930. He was married twice. His first wife, Anna Rader, died 24 March 1905 at Muskogee, Oklahoma. He married second to Gertrude Lewis at Girard, Kansas, on 25 September 1906. Gertrude was born in Missouri on 16 May 1881 and died at Muskogee, Oklahoma on 10 January 1960.

Byron received an appointment to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1895. He attended the academy for three years, finishing his degree at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. Byron served with Troop L, 1st Texas Cavalry in the Spanish-American War.

There were four (4) children known born to the second marriage.

On the 1900 U. S. Census of Fredonia, Wilson Co., Kansas, Byron is in the household of is father. Byron is an attorney.

In 1906 Byron was a US commissioner in the Indian Territory. See St. Louis, Globe Democrat, March 15, 1906 volume 31, number 300.

On the U. S. Military Records, 1925: Official National Guard shows Byron Kirkpatrick as a Lt. Col. in the Oklahoma Guard, Regiment State Staff, Company AG, birthplace Kansas, date of birth 14 July 1878.

Dallas Morning News, Dallas, Texas August 20, 1930: Byron Kirkpatrick Succumbs at Tulsa. Tulsa, Ok., Aug. 19 (AP)--Byron Kirkpatrick, 52, County Attorney of Tulsa County since 1924 and Republican nominee for re-election, died here following an illness of several months. He had been a resident of Oklahoma since 1902, coming here from Kansas City, Mo., and was the son of S. S. Kirkpatrick, Kansas Congressman. While practicing in Kansas City, he received an appointment as United States Commissioner in the Indian Territory, serving in the district which included Mayes and Delaware Counties. In the Spanish American War he won a Major's commission. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Lewis Kirkpatrick; two sons, Hobart and Byron, Jr., and two daughters, Marian and Elizabeth.
