Walter Franklin Kirkpatrick

Kirkpatrick, 48, money order clerk at the Denton post office, died suddenly Wednesday morning of intestinal trouble. For about a week he had not been well but had been at work and his condition was not thought to be serious. Late Tuesday he was stricken suddenly with pain on arriving home from work and physicians worked with him until late in the night before it was possible to give him any relief. He awoke about 8 o'clock Wednesday morning apparently better but soon afterward his condition became more serious and he died about 9 o'clock.
He entered the civil service as a rural mail carrier on Route No. 4 in 1905 and had been continuously in the service since that time. Later he transferred to city mail route No. 3 and then to the office where for a short time he was on the general delivery window and in July of 1920 he became money order clerk.
The deceased was born at Flower Mound near Lewisville and came to Denton 35 years ago. In 1905 he was married to Miss Annie Eilzey, who was here at that time attending the College of Industrial Arts. To the union were born four children, three of whom with his widow survive. Other survivors are Charles Kirkpatrick of El Paso and Carl Kirkpatrick of Amarillo, brothers. His parents died here a number of years ago.
Arrangements for the funeral services which will be at the home 415 Avenue A, have not been concluded pending arrival of Carl Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Claude McDaniel, of Lubbock a sister of Mrs. Kirkpatrick. Rev. R. R. Crockett, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church, will conduct the services and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Post Office To Close
Announcement was made Wednesday afternoon that the post office would be closed during the time of the funeral.

Kirkpatrick, who died suddenly Wednesday morning of intestinal trouble, were held at the residence, 415 Avenue A, Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. R. R. Crockett, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church. Many friends, including a number from the vicinity of Lewisville, where the deceased lived prior to moving to Denton 35 years ago, were present and there was a large floral offering. Burial was to follow in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his widow and three small daughters, and two brothers, Charley Kirkpatrick of El Paso and Carl Kirkpatrick of Amarillo. Charles Kirkpatrick was unable to reach here for the funeral.
The pallbearers were: Active, Howard Fenton, Ray Bishop, Truman Stroud, J. T. Bayless, G. R. Tomlinson and T. L. Nowlin; honorary, Jack Christal, John L. [unclear], A. L. Banks, M. B. Whitlock, L. P. Floyd Henry, Caddel, R. E. Turner, John Wright, R. R. Franks, Judge Brent C. Jackson and Paul Robertson.
