Daily American Republic, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Friday, January 14, 1949, Front Page, Col. 4: Virgil Hosfelt Is Killed in Truck Accident. Virgil R. Hosfelt, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hosfelt of Rombauer, was killed Wednesday night when the bed of a dump truck he was driving fell on his head at the plant of the Alton Box Board Co. in Alton, Ill. Officials of the company said young Hosfelt was inspecting the drive shaft of the truck when the bed fell. He was the brother of Pfc. Vernon Hosfelt who died in India*, and whose body was reburied at Rombauer Sunday. The soldier also was 22 at the time of his death.
