Mary Agnes Rucker

Mary Rucker was born 10 March 1841, probably in Sangamon County, Illinois. On 28 July 1855, she married in Santa Clara County, California to James Wayland, who was born 22 December 1829 in Virginia, and died 15 June 1883 in Junction City, Kimble County, Texas.

James and Mary were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family farmed and raised cattle. They lived first in Santa Clara County, California. In the early 1860's they moved to Santa Cruz County, California, and then to San Luis Obispo County, California. In 1866 the family moved to San Saba County, Texas. Finally, about 1880 they moved to Taylor County, Texas. Family sources state that James Wayland was a Texas Ranger during most of his time in Texas.

Mary Wayland died 31 January 1918 in Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico.

There were 11 children borne of the marriage.
