Abilene Reflector-Chronicle, Abilene, Kansas, Saturday, November 17, 2012: Arthur L. Garver, 96, of Herington, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born on Dec. 14, 1915, at Caldwell, the son of Edward H and Olive (Rains) Garver. He was a Rock Island Railroad conductor from 1943 to 1976, when he retired in June of 1976. He graduated from Caldwell High School with the class of 1933. He moved to Herington from Caldwell in 1943. He married Thelma Stookey on April 24, 1937, at Bartlesville, Okla.; she preceded in death on Jan. 13, 1997. Also preceded in death by his son Bryon Garver on June 20, 2009; and his brother John Garver. He is survived by his son Dale Garver, and his daughter Sheila Kern-Schmidt, both of Newton; a daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Herington, with Pastor Shawn Baird officiating; and burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel.
