Hudgens, 69, a former King County sheriff's captain long active in amateur and semi-professional football, died Sunday after suffering a heart attack. Born in northern Idaho, Hudgens came here as a teen-ager and attended Roosevelt High School, where his grid career began as a freshman. He was in the sheriff's office for 18 years, then managed auto- and equipment-leasing companies here for 20 years, retiring in 1978. Hudgens played football for the University Club, then turned to coaching during World War II. He coached the Lake City Boys Club football team for several years, and organized and was head coach of the semi-pro Seattle Cavaliers until his death. Under his coaching the Cavaliers won several championships, including the 1972 Northwest International Football League title and the 1981 Northwest International Football Alliance championship. Surviving are his wife, Alma; two sons, Harley Hudgens, Bellevue, and Dick Ossinger, Bothell, and a daughter, Melody Russell, Seattle. At his request there will be no funeral.
