Timothy Lee Stevens

Untitled Newspaper, Thursday, September 12, 1991, Clipping from research of Elvera Block Klein: Timothy Lee Stevens was born October 30, 1964, at Red cloud, Nebraska, to Wendel and Ruby Stevens. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Red loud on November 15, 1964, and confirmed on April 29, 1979 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Tim attended the Lutheran Parochial School and Blue Hill Public Schools. During these years, Tim had many outstanding achievements, and was actively involved in football, track, and FFA. As a senior, Tim was named TVC All Conference defensive End. He was also named to the All Tribland Area Team, the All State C-2 Defensive Team, and received Honorable Mention of the State Associated Press Squad. Tim was the State Jr. Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in 1979.

Tim had been employed by Dean Wormuth Construction of Blue Hill, Neal Gerloff construction of Holstein, Home safety Systems of Hastings, ABC Electric of Chadron, and most recently by Allen's Tree Service of Blue Hill.

Following his graduation from high school in 1983, he attended Kearney State College. At Kearney, he participated in football and intercollegiate activities.

In May 1987, Tim received his Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant as a result of completing Basic Training at Ft. Lewis, Washington; Airborne School in Ft. Benning, Georgia; and the R. O. T. C. Program at K. S. C.

Tim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing in May, 1988. Following graduation, he was on active duty for Officer's Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. He became a member of the U. S. Army Reserve 295th Ordinance Company in Hastings, Nebraska. As a member of the 295th,Tim was the maintenance and service section platoon leader, and received a promotion to 1st Lieutenant in January 1991.

Tim's company was activated on January 3, 1991, and was deployed from Ft. Riley, Kansas to Germany on January 17th. His unit was responsible for receiving, storing, and shipping ammunition in support of Operation Desert Storm. Tim returned to the United States on May 10, 1991.

Tim married Lisa L. Slater on May 30, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. Tim and Lisa had been residing in rural Blue Hill prior to his death.

Tim passed from this earth on September 3, 1991, at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, of Blue Hill; his parents, Wendel and Ruby Stevens of Blue Hill; two brothers Patrick of Wendell, Idaho, and Jeffrey of Filer, Idaho; two sisters, Linda Branting of Tecumseh, and Marilyn Gerloff of Ayr; his grandmother, Blanche Stevens of Blue Hill; nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and his many friends.

Services were held Sunday afternoon, September 8, 1991, from Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska. The Reverends Joseph Jones and Fred Berry officiated.

Alvin Willems was organist. Soloist, Evart Barton, sang "One Day At A Time" and "The Lord's Prayer:. The Congregation sang "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling: and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Pat Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Les Branting, Bruce Gerloff, Mike Kort, Tim Allen, Kevin Kort, and Brad Gilbert. Interment with Military Rites by the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, was at the Blue Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Merten Butler Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, or to the donor's choice.
