James Gordon "J G" Birdsong Sr

Posted at findagrave.com: James Birdsong, 70, of El Centro passed away on April 3, 2013 at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego surrounded by family. Jim, as he was known to everyone he met, was born on February 9, 1943 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late John and Mildred Birdsong. Jim married his high school sweetheart since 10th grade of 50 years Flora (Cokie) on September 7, 1962 in Farmington, New Mexico. He graduated from Farmington High in Farmington N.M. where he played football and basketball. He went on to graduate from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy in 1967. He worked as a Pharmacist for 45 years, both as a staff pharmacist and business owner over the years. His latest endeavor was Central Pharmacy and Central Home Medical. He was partner with his brother at Parker's Pharmacy in Holtville. He is remembered by all who met him as a kind, mellow, patient, loving person always willing to be called by friends and customers in need of help. He loved his family and grandchildren very much. Jim loved woodwork, his sports cars, the History Channel, sports, collecting guns, his staff at the business, going to the casino, his cat and especially the dog Jack and feed his birds.

Jim is survived by his wife, Cokie; daughter, Becky Felder and her husband Troy Felder; granddaughters, Sage and Lauren from Sacramento; son, James Jr. and his wife, Megan and granddaughters, Meredith and Gillian from San Jose; son, Joel of El Centro and grandson, Seth of Yuma, Arizona; brother, Sam and sister-in-law, Mirna, nieces, Millie, Sadie and Brise of El Centro; godsons, Benny and Shannell Carter of El Centro.

A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro, with Methodist Minister Ron Griffen officiating. A Gathering will be held at Women's 10, 000 Club at 7th Street and Olive after the service. Jim was an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, donate to a favorite charity.
