Mr. Harold Lee Cumpston, age 82, of Carroll, died at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll on March 26, 2011. In his working years, he built grain bins, did construction work and drove truck. He was born on April 28, 1928, at Wymore, Nebraska and was the son of Francis and Clarisa (McNeal) Cumpston. He attended and graduated from Gothenburg High School at Gothenburg, Nebraska where he was a fullback on the Gothenburg Swedes football team. He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1995. Harold was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the Army. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1956. Harold was a member of the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion and the VFW of Carroll. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, visiting with his friends at WalMart, attending family gatherings and watching Nebraska Cornhusker Football.
Surviving are his children: Donald Peters and his wife Pat of Carroll; Randy Peters and his wife Kelly of Des Moines; Robert Mohr of Carroll; Donna Johnson and her husband Roy of Carroll; Richard Mohr and his wife Michelle of Carroll; Rhonda Hess and her husband Rick of Columbia, Missouri; and Debra Mohr of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother Leonard Cumpston. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Loretta; a daughter Debra Kay Rolfs; a granddaughter Ashley Mohr; three brothers: Jim, Don and Francis; and four sisters: Lavonn, Naomi, Wanda and Virginia. Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor David Schaal of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Interment will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 9 AM on Tuesday until the time of service. Military honors will be given by the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion.
