Born in Wymore, Nebraska, he also lived in Philadelphia, Norfolk, and Washington D.C. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1965 after 27 years and worked for the Pitman School System in the Maintenance Dept., delivered papers for Pitman News Agency and Pitman Bakery, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed Football Games, pinochle and was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Predeceased by his son Robert Cumpston, he was the last of his 11 siblings to pass. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis M. (nee Lee), daughters; Wendy (Jack) Batt and Lori (David) Lang, grandchildren; Pam (Mark) Mexis, Michele (Adam) Fistler, Sara (Brian) McGowan, Jason (Jackie) Lang, and 7 great grandchildren. Friends may call on Monday from 10 to 11AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Service at 11AM. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
