Sarah Love Lofton

Alton Telegraph, Alton, Illinois, Thursday, August 18, 1881, Page 14, Col. 3: Another Pioneer Fallen. Mrs. Sarah Love Gillham, relict of James Gillham, died at the residence of her son, Erastus W. Gillham, near Merritt, Scott county, Ill., Aug. 10th, 1881. Her age was 84 years. Her maiden name was Lofton. She was born in South Carolina. When young came to Illinois, and settled near Alton. After her marriage she came to Scott county. Her husband died in May, 1870. Of their seven children, five are still living. Soon after her marriage she and her husband united with the Methodist church. From that time they were active in all good works, their home being the welcome resort of scores of the early ministers of the church. ---Jacksonville Journal.
