Charles Henry Verschoyle

Verschoyle, 77, of 4315 Live Oak, a past president of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, insurance agent and independent oil operator, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Sparkman-Brand Funeral Chapel, 2115 Ross. Verschoyle died late Friday at his home. Past president of the American Automobile association executive board, Verschoyle was active in Dallas insurance until he retired in 1945. He was agent for the National Indemnity Underwriters upon retiring. In 1909 he was cofounder of the Slaughter-Verschoyle Insurance Company and five years later bought the Slaughter interest.

He was president of the Young-Simmons Drilling Company and the Anderson Drilling Company in the 1920's. Verschoyle also was past president of the Insurance Federation of Texas. Born in Dallas Feb. 24, 1880, he lived in Dallas most of his life and attended Dallas Public Schools. He lived in Ballinger for a short time while a child. In recent years he has been active in the Golden Jubilee Club and was instrumental in forming the Hospitality Club on Ross Avenue. Verschoyle formerly belonged to the City Club, Auto Club, Ad League, Rotary Club, Knights of Pythias and Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mattie Ellen Adams of San Antonio, Mrs. Etta Mae Good of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Charlie Belle Welsh of Dallas and Mrs. Gloria Graham of Dallas; three sons, L. R. Verschoyle of Minneapolis, Minn., W. R. Verschoyle of Dallas and Hubert H. Verschoyle of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The Rev. W. A. Welsh, pastor of the East Dallas Christian Church, will conduct funeral services. Burial will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park.
