Mike Salo

From Jane Grubbs, September 2017: Mike was born in the United States, but his parents were from Poland. When he was 3 months old his mother took him and his brother back to Poland. When he was 11 years old he came back to the States. His mother and brother stayed in Poland. They were put in concentration camps. His mother died in the camp and his brother was shot and killed trying to escape. Mike was a truck dirver but he also had the taxi service in Christopher, Illinois.

, Carbondale, Illinois, Friday, February 13, 1998, Page 3 B: Christopher - Mike Salo, 84, of 302 S. Mulkey St. died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Aken officiating. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Salo was a truck driver and member of the Oak Grove Christian Church. He was born May 2, 1913, in Kansas to George and Kate Salo. He married Hester Kirkpatrick. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Barbara Zeboski of Benton, one grandchild and two greatgrandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.
