Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock a large group of devoted relatives and friends assembled in the Chapel of Barry Funeral Home to pay final tribute to John Ivy Kimbrough, carpenter and painter, who died about 6:15 Saturday morning at the Okolona Community Hospital. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Robert Miller, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Allison Bell, pastor of the First Baptist Church. The Presbyterian Church choir sang Rock of Ages and Abide With Me. Miss Sandra Henson was the accompanist. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers were E L Welford, Roy Evans Hansel Rogers, Harold Turner, Ruben Gann and Rupert Buchanan. Mr. Kimbrough, 88, had not been well for about three years and for more than a year had been confined to his bed at the home of his daughter, Miss Johnnie Kimbrough, and had been in and out of the hospital. He was the oldest member of Prairie Lodge No. 87 Free and Accepted Masons. Until about three years ago he was remarkably active and continued his regular work. It was not unusual to see him on a high ladder working on a building. He refused to retire and often stated he was off from work because of illness. He was an excellent gardener and his vegetables and flowers attracted the attention of people throughout the community. Born and reared in Pontotoc County, he had lived here for the past 12 years. His wife, the former Miss Lucy Aycock, died 11 years ago. He was a Presbyterian. In addition to his daughter here with whom he made his home, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. George Lee of St. Louis; three sons, Joe Kimbrough of Booneville, Bert Kimbrough of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Earlee Kimbrough, all of whom were here; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
