Reuben Walter Walquist

Iola Register, Iola, Kansas, Monday, October 26, 1959, Page 2, Col. 6: Reuben W. Walquist, 65, former postmaster at Savonburg, died at his home in Savonburg Saturday night following a protracted illness. Mr. Walquist was born on a farm west of Savonburg. He attended the local schools and graduated from the Lindsborg Business College. He served with the armed forces during World War I. A farmer and cattleman most of his life he was postmaster of Savonburg for seven years. For the past 25 years he devoted all of his time to his farm interests. He was a member of the Friends home Lutheran Church. Mr. Walquist was married to Cleo Rumbeck oct. 9, 1927, and she survives. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Simms, Savonburg, and four grandsons. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Peterson of Parsons at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Friends Home Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Lutheran cemetery. The family suggests that those who wish to remember him contribute to the American Cancer Society.
