Jane Eleanor Kirkpatrick

Jane Kirkpatrick was born 12 August 1811. She married in 1836 Thomas Sherer, Jr., son of Thomas and Ann (Robinson) Sherer. Thomas was born 20 November 1808 at the 'Sherer Home Place' in York County, South Carolina.
On 11 March 1839, Thomas bought from his father 16 acres of land for $100. Seven days later, after making his will, Thomas, Sr., also deeded his homeplace, 197 acres of land, to Thomas, Jr. for $100, with the following reservation: ". . . but conveyance shall not take effect during the lifetime of myself and that of my wife Ann -- we retain possession and occupancy of said premises during our natural life. At our decease the reservation shall cease and be void." For a number of years Thomas Jr. and Jane lived near the "Old Sherer Home" occupied by his parents and cared for them until their death. Thomas Sherer, Sr. died before 19 August 1839, and Ann died before 7 December 1840. After the death of his parents, Thomas Sherer, Jr. legally acquired the "Old Sherer Home Place" plantation. Fifteen years later in 1855 this "Home Place" with additionally acquired acreage totaling 300 acres, was sold to Thomas to William Lynn, preparatory to a removal to Wlaker County, Alabama.
In 1855 Jane and Thomas settled in Walker County, Alabama. On 11 December 1855 Thomas entered government land on Section 8, Township 14 of Range 7, where the farmed until 1884. In that year they moved to Dry Creek, Fayette County, Alabama. Shortly thereafter they moved to Jasper where they spend their remaining years. Jane died 26 September 1886 and Thomas died 15 September 1888.
