Fort Scott Tribune, Fort Scott, Kansas, January 24, 1978, Page 9, Col. 2: Mrs. Laura Mae Briggs, 86, 744 S. Lowman, died at the Gold Age Lodge at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23. Mrs. Briggs was born May 30, 1891, at Fort Scott, the daughter of Amos and Mary Van Tassel Decker. She married Virgil N. Briggs June 3, 1941 [1914], at Fort Scott. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1967. Mrs. Briggs had lived her entire life in the Fort Scott area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Key of 1614 S. Crawford and Mrs. Betty Bruce of Gardner, Kan.; a twin brother, Frank Decker of 715 S. Wilson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Earl's Memorial Home with Rev. Gordon I. Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
