Topeka Capital-Journal, Topeka, Kansas, May 11, 2005: Benton Harbor, Mich.-- Alfred Madison George Thomas, 90, died April 19, 2005, in Benton Harbor, Mich. He was born Jan. 30, 1915, on the family farm near Meriden Kan., to William and Louise Peuker Thomas, the youngest of four sons. He married Edna Rupe on Sept. 13, 1935. She preceded him in death in 2002. A son, Jaewyn, died in infancy. During World War II he worked for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Co. in San Diego on the B-24 Liberator Bomber. He was extremely proud of the fact that he reworked a design flaw in that airplane. After the war he worked briefly for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka. He spent the remainder of his life farming the family farm where he was born. He was an avid collector, mainly of farm equipment toys. Survivors include two daughters, Cherrie Clark and her husband, Bob, Oakley, Kan., and Cista Leonard and her husband, Alan, Anaheim, Calif.; a son, Rockey and his wife, Sharon, Benton Harbor; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. A graveside Inurnment service will be in Meriden Cemetery in Meriden, Kan., at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16. Arrangements are by Davidson Funeral Home of Topeka.
