Maggie Mason Garner
Maggie Mason Garner passed away at her home in Milan on Wednesday, March 25, about 1:30 p.m. She had been in frail health for the past year and had been a patient in a hospital in Kirksville twice in the past nine months. Her health was said to have failed rapidly in the last few weeks before her death.
She was the daughter of the late George and Catherine Mason, pioneer residents of Sullivan County. She was born 59 years ago near Pollock and was united in marriage to Dr. R. L. Garner, on October 30, 1904. To this union was born one son, Dr. Lynn Garner. Besides the husband and son, she is survived by two brothers, Oscar Mason of Tulsa, Okla., and George Mason of Shattuck, Oklahoma and two sisters, Mrs. C. L. Woodridge of Smithton, Mo., and Miss Bertha Mason of Milan. Mrs. Garner grew up in a Christian home, and early in life united with the Methodist church which she faithfully served all her life.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilson Benley, pastor of the M.E. Church at Lemons, on Friday, March 27. The Order of Eastern Star officiated and performed the beautiful ritual of the order after which the body was laid to rest in the Lemons cemetery.
