Atchison Daily Globe, Atchison, Kansas, Monday, May 6, 1957, Front Page Col. 5 and Page 2, Col.3: Daniel Rites On Wednesday. L. E. (Everett) Daniel, Sr., 75, retired rural mail carrier on route 1 out of Rushville, died at 10:30 o'clock Saturday night at the Atchison hospital. He became ill at his home Saturday evening while visiting with his family and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Death was due to a heart condition. He had been in declining health three years. The Daniel home is one mile east of Atchison on U. S. 59 and is just east of Winthrop. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rushville Christian church. The body is at the Sawin & Dyer mortuary in Atchison and will lie in state at the church for an hour prior to the services. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Harold Roberts and the Rev. J. Preston Gregory. Burial will be in Sugar Creek cemetery in the family lot. The pallbearers will be Frank Ehret, Chester Harvey, Ernest Crossfield, Jack Ellis, Pleasant Little and Arthur Johnson.

Lyman Everett Daniel was born April 28, 1882 at West Plains, Mo He was the eldest of five children born to Lyman C. (Bud) Daniel and Mary Susan Chapin Daniel. Mr. Daniel moved with his parents to the Bean lake vicinity in 1888 when he was six years old. His father became a prominent farmer in Platte county. For three years Everett Daniel attended the Chillicothe (Mo.) Business college. On Dec. 1, 1909 he married Miss Mahala Kirkpatrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. (Bud) Kirkpatrick of the Bean lake community. The wedding took place in Atchison. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel established their home on the Daniel farm west of Bean lake. They resided on the farm until August, 1919, when he was appointed rural mail carrier at Rushville. The home was then moved to Rushville. Mr. Daniel carried mail from 1919 until his retirement in1944. In this capacity he made a host of friends and will long be remembered by his patrons for his accommodations and years of courteous and friendly service. At Rushville he participated in community affairs. He was a member of the Rushville IOOF lodge No. 227 and three years ago was presented a pin honoring 50 years of membership. Lodge work was one of his primary interests and he served in all the offices including that of IOOF District Deputy Grand Master. He was a charter member of the Radian Rebekah lodge, Rushville. Mr. Daniel was also interested in political affairs and many times was elected Republican committeeman of Rush township. One of his favorite avocations was that of auctioneer at rural school pie and box suppers in Buchanan and Platte counties. In June, 1931, Mr. Daniel purchased the Jack Little farm a mile east of Atchison in the Winthrop neighborhood. Mr. Daniel engaged in farming activities and owned farms in both Buchanan and Platte counties in the Missouri river bottoms. During his retirement years his favorite pastime was daily visits on the streets of Atchison talking with his many friends. Mr. Daniel was known for his immaculate dress, kindliness, and his gracious and friendly manner. He was a member of the Atchison Christian church. Surviving are his wife of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Dyer, Rushville, and Mrs. Ed (Mayme) Hiner, Atchison, a son, Lyman E. Daniel, Jr. Prairie Village, a granddaughter, Virginia Dyer, Rushville, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Evans, Kansas City and Mrs. Laura Frasier, Atchison and a brother, Odis Daniel, Beach lake. A sister Mrs. Edward (Daisy) Gordon died in 1939. A number of nieces and nephews survive.
