Roy Vernon Good Jr.

The Register-Guard , Eugene, Oregon, June 26, 2003, Page D-4, Col. 3: Roy Good Jr. Dexter---A memorial celebration of life will be held June 28 for Roy Vernon Good Jr., of Dexter, who died June 20 of emphysema and cancer. He was 73. Good was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Dalhart, Texas to Roy Good Sr. and Hettie Mae Clason Good. He married Lois Jeanne Good in Richmond, Calif. on Sept. 23, 1951. He lived in Canadian, Texas until 1943, when his family moved to Anaheim, Calif. He graduated from Anaheim High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 and served as a chief electronics technician. He served aboard the USS William Wood, the USS Radford and the USS Kitty Hawk. He was stationed in numerous places in the United States and the Persian Gulf and Japan. He was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation Medal with a Bronze Star, a Vietnam Service Medical with two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star. After retiring from the Navy in 1969, he joined the Fleet Reserve and was active until 1977. He lived in Poway, Calif., until 1978 when he moved to Dexter and operated the Dexter Service Station for many years. His interests included automotive technology and electronics. He enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of trivia and stories from his years in the Navy. He also enjoyed teaching his grandsons automotive repair and stereo installation. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, granddaughter and great-grandson. Survivors include his wife; his mother of Corona, Calif., two daughters, Roberta "Bobbie" Liberman of Springfield and Rene Good of Dexter; a brother William "Bill" of Manteca, Calif.; a sister, Audrey Garrett of Anaheim; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The memorial celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dexter Community Center. Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. American Burial & Cremation Alternatives in Springfield is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cascade Foothills Library, PO Box 12, Dexter OR 97431.
